DREW OWEN (Cello) A resident of the Washington, D.C. area since 1998, cellist Drew Owen has performed as a freelance musician with the National Symphony, the Baltimore Symphony, The Washington National Opera, and The Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra. Highlights include the National Symphony’s 2009 Asia tour and the Washington National Opera’s 2002 Japan Tour. Before coming to Washington, Drew was a member of the New Orleans Symphony and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. Drew holds degrees from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, the Cleveland Institute of Music and was also a fellowship student at the Aspen Music Festival. He has performed in master classes for many cellists including Yo-Yo Ma and Lynn Harrell. Drew has been on the faculty of the Washington Conservatory of Music since 2000. He is the cello instructor at Howard University and was on the faculty of Tulane University in New Orleans. Drew is a member of the Gragnani Trio and the Saint George Quartet. He also performs as a magician and combines his talents as magician/cellist in the group, Presto!, which presents educational children’s programs in schools throughout the Washington DC area. |
